The 2017 Merit Badge Challenge will be held on three Saturday mornings: January 28th, Februrary 18th, and February 25th 2017. Troop 850 attends the MBC at the Fairfield H.S. location. If there is a cancellation of any of the dates due to weather, the makeup date will be March 18th.
This is an excellent opportunity for scouts to work on merit badges that are typically not offered at summer camp. In the past, I have sat in on some of the classes and they are taught by comitted counselors. As long as the pre-work and homework assignments are completed, the scouts will generally earn the merit badge.
Please look at the planning matrix with your scout and decide which three merit badges thay would like to work on. Each scout should pick at least one Eagle required merit badge and two other merit badges. Also include two alternate badges and at least one additional alternate eagle required merit badge.
We will do our best in registering for the first choice merit badges, but some merit badges fill up quickly.
Dan Beard Council has a general information page about Merit Badge Challenge. Go to 2017 Merit Badge Challenge Handbook to see what badges are available in which sessions (remember, we are going to the Fairfield site) and if you’d like to you can read the entire MBC information packet.
Registration begins November 14th. We register as a troop, so all requests must be submitted by the November 8th troop meeting. The cost is $15 per scout and includes the MBC participation patch.
