Spaghetti Dinner – Ticket Turn-in April 10th

Please remember that Tuesday, April 10th is the final turn-in for money and unsold spaghetti dinner tickets. Any money turned in after the troop meeting on April 10th will NOT be credited to the scout’s account. Please put the cash, checks, and any unsold tickets in an envelope with the scout’s name, number of adult tickets sold, number of child tickets sold and the total amount of money turned in.

Spring Backpacking Trip – April 20-22

The Spring Backpacking trip April 20-22 will be in the Mount Vesuvius region of Wayne National Forest in Southeast Ohio.  All Scouts including first time backpackers are welcome to attend.   The permission slip below and $ 35 fee per person are due April 10th.

Safe Shred Day – Saturday April 28th at St. Ignatius

This is an opportunity to provide a valuable public service to the Community, benefit Troop 850 and add to your Personal Camp Fund at the same time.  20 scouts and 8-10 adults are needed to help with this event.   Scouts will process confidential documents that parishoners and community members drop off during the 9 – 11 am event (volunteers will work 8 – noon).  

Shred Safe will provide 2 shredding trucks and portable totes.  Scouts will remove all metal and plastic bindings, paper clips and other non-shreddable items.  Adults will oversee the processing, aid in maintaining the flow of totes to the shredding trucks, and ensure traffic flow in the parking lot and general safety.

Summer Camp Merit Badge Sign-up

Sign-up for merit badges at Camp Friedlander begins Monday morning March 19th and is on a first-come-first-serve basis.  Refer to the 3 documents below to make your selections.

Mount Airy Service Campout March 16-18

Troop 850 will hold our annual Service Campout at Mt Airy the weekend of March 16-18. We will perform a service project in the park, but at this time, we do not know what the project will be.

We strongly encourage all Troop 850 Scouts to participate to show our appreciation to Cincinnati Parks for allowing us to use Maple Ridge Lodge for our Dutch Oven Campout at no charge. 

Please return the Permission Slip by March 6th.  As in previous years, there is no charge for our Service Campout.

Troop850.org has been updated! The online calendar is now complete through the end of 2012, and the contact information for Scouts, adults, and merit badge counselors in the Troop (all available under the Members Only menu) is now completely up to date.

Dutch Oven Campout Feb 10-12

Troop 850’s annual Dutch Oven Campout will be held the weekend of February 10-12 in the warmth of Mount Airy’s Maple Ridge Lodge.  Under the tutelage of Master Chef Andrew Ciolino, the Scouts will spend Saturday blending, stirring, spicing, pureeing, and decorating a 3 course meal.  Some very lucky, specially selected guest judges will feast on the … uh, feast.    There will also be time set aside for card playing, sled riding (maybe), and a Saturday night movie with popcorn. 

Mass with Father Don will be in the Lodge at 4:30 Saturday and all parents are welcome to join us, but please indicate on the permission slip so we know how many to expect.

Please return the permission slip with fee ($ 20 per person) by Tuesday February 7th.

Summer Camp at Camp Friedlander

Troop 850 will be attending Summer Camp July 22-28 at Camp Friedlander near Loveland, Ohio.  The cost per Scout is $ 250 and the Troop will pay the cost for Adults who attend camp for the entire week.  Payments should be made to Troop 850 and the first payment of $ 75 is due January 31st, another $ 75 by March 27th, and the balance of $ 100 is due by May 8th.  Council will charge an extra $ 20 for late payments, so be sure to make your payments on time.

All Scouts and Adults are required to complete a Medical form signed by a medical professional to be turned in upon arrival at camp.  A link to this form is provided below. 

Also provided is a link to the 2012 Leaders Guide for Camp Friedlander which contains a whole lot of detail about Summer Camp.   Signup for merit badges begins in March and pages 10-11 contain details on the merit badges offered.  Pages 14-15 have information on programs for older Scouts.  Please note, some extra fees are charged for certain merit badges and programs. 

This will be a memorable week for our Scouts and we hope to have a large turnout of Scouts and adults.

2012 Minnesota High Adventure Reminder

Our 2012 high adventure trip will be a canoe trip the week of June 15 through June 23 in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northeastern Minnesota. If you missed the Christmas Court of Honor, or you misplaced your handout, you can download the high adventure fact sheet from this link:

Remember, the deadline for reserving a place on the Troop’s 2012 high adventure crew is January 17, and a nonrefundable $75 deposit is required by that date–the reason being that in order to enter the Boundary Waters a permit issued by the US Forest Service is required, and they are issued on a first come, first serve basis starting January 25,
