Several months ago Katie Walro volunteered to lead interested Scouts in earning the Catholic Scouting award, Ad Altare Dei. In case you didn’t see Father Don’s heartfelt thank you in last week’s bulletin, here it is again. Thanks again Katie!

For reasons beyond our control it will be necessary to change the dates of our next outing to October 14-16, a week later than originally planned. We will be travelling to the Red River Gorge in eastern Kentucky for a backpacking weekend. All Scouts who have been in the Troop for at least one year are eligible to participate–we will plan the route consistent with the experience and level of ability of the Scouts who sign up to go, and of course parents are welcome and encouraged to come along as well. And anyone who is considering going on our high adventure trip next summer–backpacking in Colorado–should definitely plan to go on this trip. The Troop has several backpacks available to borrow for those who don’t own backpacks but would like to give backpacking a try. If you have any questions, please contact Dan Ogilvie, Dan Rottmueller or Chas Hertlein. Permission slips due October 11.

The deadline for signing up for our 2016 high adventure trip to the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota–January 19–is fast approaching! Click here:

for a fact sheet with all of the details. The logistics of planning this trip are considerable, and we do need to know who will be participating by the deadline, as we will then get to work choosing a route, obtaining the necessary permits (available by lottery only!), and otherwise planning the trip. Chas Hertlein and Dan Rottmueller will be happy to answer any questions.

It’s time to renew the Troop’s “charter” with the BSA and therefore time to renew our individual memberships for 2016. The usual paperwork for this purpose is now in the mail. This is also the time to catch up on required adult training, and in some cases you will find inserts in your mailing with details on your training status.
And speaking of training, the University of Scouting is coming up on November 7 at Princeton High School–click here for details. This is a great opportunity to catch required trainings and for our parents and other volunteers to learn how to be great scout leaders.
It’s time to begin planning for our high adventure trip next summer. We will be returning to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota for a week of paddling, camping, and fishing. A preliminary fact sheet is attached; hard copies will be available at the Court of Honor this Tuesday. We will show a short video about the Boundary Waters, including some pictures from past trips, and we will be available to answer any and all questions.

It is time to place our annual order for new t-shirts. Every Scout or adult planning to attend either summer camp or the high adventure trip will need seven t-shirts, one each of the following colors: lime green, red, tan, grey, orange, yellow, and light blue–a clean t-shirt for every day of the week-long trip. Please take an inventory of your shirts and let me know as soon as possible how many shirts of each color and each size you will need this year. The price is $8 per shirt. Shirts available in adult sizes S M L XL XXL XXXL. I need to submit the order not later than April 22 to ensure we get the shirts in time for summer camp in June, so please respond promptly! Thanks.

All Scouts, family members and other members of the Troop 850 community are cordially invited to celebrate Michael Branscum’s attainment of Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout. Michael’s Eagle Court of Honor will take place at 1:00 PM Sunday, August 18 in Hilvert Hall at St. Ignatius. Please join us in this inspiring ceremony, followed by refreshments and fellowship.
All adults and Scouts on the high adventure crew must attend the Troop meeting next week! We will be going over final trip details, passing out food, tents and other community gear and viewing a bear safety video. In the meantime, please see the following items for important information about the trip–parents, please print these out and share with your Scouts!
Finally, the final trip budget is $850 per person–this includes the cost of the shakedown campout a few weeks ago. If you have not paid in full, please do so next Tuesday. If you need to know how much you’ve already paid or how much is in your personal account, please contact me by phone or email.
We are pleased to welcome 12 new Scouts and their families to Troop 850! The Troop Directory, which is available under the Members Only tab of the website, has now been updated t0 add all of our new members, and all of our new families have been added to the membership roll of this website. Your initial username is simply the Scout’s last name in all small letters (“jones”), and your initial password is the Scout’s first name plus home zip code (“timmy45239”). You should sign on soon and change your username and/or password to something of your own choosing.
Every Scout also has an account in our TroopMaster advancement tracking system. You can check your Scout’s records at anytime by signing onto TroopMaster Web–there is a link for it under the Members Only tab on this website. Your initial username and password for TroopMaster Web is the same as for this website–you can and should sign on and change them.
One other note: If your Scout has his own email address, we encourage them to register as a website member so they will directly get all notifications and posts.
If you have any questions at all, either about www.troop850.org or TroopMaster Web, you can email Chas Hertlein at chas@hertlein.cc.
To All Troop 850 Scouts and Parents,
Troop 850 is sponsoring the annual Spaghetti Dinner to be held on April 6, 3:30pm – 7:00pm in the St. Ignatius School Cafeteria. Everyone’s help is needed to make this a successful event.
Boys were given advance tickets at the 2/26/13 troop meeting. Each advance ticket that you sell, earns credit in your personal Troop 850 account that can be used to pay for campouts, summer camp and other Troop activities. You will be credited $4.00 for each advance ticket that you sell. These tickets are your responsibility and you will be expected to turn in either the unsold tickets or the money you collected no later than the Troop meeting held on Tuesday, April 2nd. All the advance tickets you have must be accounted for at that time. If turned in later than the troop meeting on April 2nd, your personal account WILL NOT be credited with the money from the advance sale.
If you need additional tickets, please contact Nicki Eichhold at n_eichhold@yahoo.com.
Advance Ticket prices:
Adult Tickets (12 yrs – 64 yrs): $7.00
Child/Senior Tickets (3 yrs – 11 yrs or >65 yrs): $5.00
Children under 3: FREE
Cub Scouts in Uniform: FREE
***PLEASE turn in any money collected and any unsold tickets in an envelope with your name. Also, indicate how many adult tickets were sold, how many child tickets were sold and the amount of any donation you received. When scouts hand in a pile of cash with unsold tickets it is VERY difficult to figure out who deserves credit for advance sales.***
Top 3 Sellers will be recognized at the Spaghetti Dinner as well as receive an awesome prize for their efforts!!
