Calendar Improvements

We’ve improved the Calendar feature on troop850.org! It is now based on Google Calendar and can be viewed in three different modes: weekly, monthly, or agenda. The agenda view is simply a list of all scheduled events without a calendar grid. You can click on any event for more details. And since it is now based on Google Calendar, you can easily import the Troop calendar onto your computer, tablet or smartphone. If you already have a Google account (such as gmail), simply go to the Google page in your internet browser, select the Calendar tab at the top of the page, and from there click Other Calendars–Add a Coworker’s Calendar. Insert the following email address–bsat850@gmail.com–and the Troop calendar will be instantly added to your own Google Calendar. You can also download the Android Google Calendar app onto your Android Smartphone or tablet, or the Google app for iPhone and/or iPad, and similarly import the Troop’s calendar instantly.

Pancake Breakfast Tickets

Troop 850’s All-U-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast will be held Sunday October 28th, from 7 am to 12 noon in the St. Ignatius School Cafeteria.  Everyone’s help is needed to to make this a successful event.  Each boy received 6 Adult and 6 Child/Senior tickets at the Court of Honor.  For each ticket the boys sell they will receive $3 credited to their personal account.   This can be used to pay for campouts, summer camp and other Troop activities.  The tickets are your responsibility and you will be expected to turn in either the unsold tickets or the money you collected no later than the Troop Meeting held on Tuesday, October 23rd.  All the advance tickets you have must be accounted for at that time.  If you need additional tickets or you were not at the Court of Honor and would like your initial presale tickets, please contact Mrs. Eichhold at n_eichhold@yahoo.com or at any of the Troop Meetings.

Court of Honor Tuesday

Don’t forget that the Troop’s meeting this Tuesday is the Fall Court of Honor when we recognize the Scouts’ achievements of the past few months. We’ll also have a slideshow of pictures and videos from the high adventure trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness this past June and a sneak preview of next year’s planned high adventure trip to the Wind River mountains in Wyoming. Extended family and friends are welcome, as well as parents and siblings. We look forward to seeing you!

Troopmaster Web Improvements

The Troop maintains its advancement and other records in a software program called Troopmaster. Online access to Troopmaster is available through Troopmaster Web–you may have seen a link to this service in the Members Only section of our website. Now you can go directly to Troopmaster Web by using the following web address: http://www.troopmasterweb.com/troop850   And there is now a mobile version of Troopmaster, so you can access your Scout’s records from your smartphone or iPad! You do need a username and password for Troopmaster Web–your username and password for www.troop850.org won’t work. If you’ve forgotten your Troopmaster Web password or username, or have not previously requested access, just drop Chas Hertlein an email at chas@hertlein.cc and he will get you set up.

Time to Order T-Shirts!

Keeping track of 25 or 30 Scouts at camp or on the road to high adventure can be challenging, to say the least. We’ve found that having all of our Scouts and Troops wear the same t-shirt for these events is a huge help to our adult leaders. So for the past few years we’ve let everyone know exactly what color troop t-shirts they will need to wear on these trips. This year, everyone (Scout or adult) who is going to summer camp at Camp Friedlander will need troop t-shirts in the following colors:  RED  YELLOW  BRIGHT GREEN  ORANGE  GRAY  TAN   MAROON

Everyone going on the high adventure trip to Minnesota will need: RED   YELLOW   BRIGHT GREEN   ORANGE

An order form is attached here:

Please fill it out with your t-shirt needs and return to Chas Hertlein not later than the May 15 meeting so we’ll have time to get our order filled with the t-shirt company. The cost is $8.00 per shirt.

Website Updated

Troop850.org has been updated! The online calendar is now complete through the end of 2012, and the contact information for Scouts, adults, and merit badge counselors in the Troop (all available under the Members Only menu) is now completely up to date.

2012 Minnesota High Adventure Reminder

Our 2012 high adventure trip will be a canoe trip the week of June 15 through June 23 in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northeastern Minnesota. If you missed the Christmas Court of Honor, or you misplaced your handout, you can download the high adventure fact sheet from this link:

Remember, the deadline for reserving a place on the Troop’s 2012 high adventure crew is January 17, and a nonrefundable $75 deposit is required by that date–the reason being that in order to enter the Boundary Waters a permit issued by the US Forest Service is required, and they are issued on a first come, first serve basis starting January 25,

If you have any questions, feel free to ask Mr. Rottmueller or Mr. Hertlein.

Swimming Merit Badge

Swimming merit badge is one of the required badges for Eagle. It is also a necessary building block for taking other merit badges such as Lifesaving, and it is a prerequisite for anyone who wishes to participate in one of the water-related high adventure trips–kayaking the New River, canoing in Minnesota, or scuba diving. We recomend that all new Scouts make every effort to earn this badge their first summer in the Troop, usually at summer camp. This year, however, new Scouts are unable to take both their Tenderfoot to First Class advancement classes and Swimming merit badge. So, Chas Hertlein will be offering the merit badge to interested Scouts over the course of this summer, mostly on Tuesday nights during regular meeting times. In order to schedule the classes, I need to know as soon as possible exactly which Scouts will want to earn this merit badge. So please drop me an email or give me a call to let me know!
