T-Shirt Tuesday

Next Tuesday, May 3, is t-shirt Tuesday at the Troop’s weekly meeting. As you know, all boys attending summer camp or high adventure will be required to have a complete set of six t-shirts in six designated colors. Everyone will wear the same color each day of the trip. This makes it a lot easier to keep track of the boys both on the road and in camp. Each Scout is entitled to one new t-shirt in this year’s color as part of their annual dues payment. Additional shirts necessary to complete the set will be available for purchase at our cost. This Tuesday we ask that every Scout bring in his entire collection of Troop t-shirts (freshly laundered, please) so we can take an inventory and determine needs. We also hope that you will donate any usable t-shirts that may no longer fit your Scout back to the Troop for possible future use by younger Scouts. Once we figure out the details, we let everyone know.

Spring Backpacking Trip

The Troop will return to the Twin Lakes area of the Hoosier National Forest in Indiana the weekend of April 8-10. This will be a great trip both for our experienced backpackers and brand new Scouts who would like to try it for the first time. We’ll be divided into two groups, one to take a more challenging route and the other to take a shorter route perfect for first-timers. We’ll all meet at the same beautiful spot in the woods overlooking one of the twin lakes to camp together Saturday night.  A permission slip is attached and must be returned April 5. Click here or here or here  for more information about our destination.

Spaghetti Dinner Ticket Turn-in Deadline is Tuesday!!

Spaghetti Dinner ticket sellers please take note: The deadline for turning in all advance ticket sale proceeds and all unsold tickets is the next Troop meeting, Tuesday, March 29th.  Put the money and tickets in an envelope with your name, the amount of money collected and the number of each type of tickets sold. We use the advance sales as a means of estimating the necessary food quantities for the dinner, and late turn-ins don’t help with this,  so any money turned in after this meeting WILL NOT be credited to your personal account. Please call Angie Dwyer if you have any questions.

Welcome to the New Troop850.org

We’ve updated and improved Troop 850’s website! You will notice a number of changes. The new website uses a modern content management system which will allow each of the Troop’s leaders to post articles directly to the website in real time–so instead of having to wait up to a month for the next newsletter, they can get the word out right away by posting it here. What’s more, when they do so, a message will automatically go out to the Troop’s new Facebook and Twitter accounts, so anyone who “LIKES” Troop 850 on Facebook or “FOLLOWS” the Troop on Twitter will be immediately notified of the new post–and even if you don’t use either Facebook or Twitter, if you become a registered member of the Troop’s website, you’ll get an email announcing the new post.

So be sure to become a member of the website–the first time you select the Members Only menu up above, you will be directed to a registration page where you can obtain a Username and Password.

Besides ensuring that you will get email notifications of new posts, by registering you will get access to directories of all Troop adults and Scouts, Troop merit badge counselors, and all merit badge counselors for our local district.

The Members Only menu will also give you access to a link to “TroopMaster Web.” This is the Troop’s internal database for tracking Scout advancement, training and so forth. At this site, you will be able to check your Scout’s advancement records at any time, so you can see just how well he’s doing! You will need a separate Username and Password for TroopMaster Web which will be sent to you after you register for the general website.

We hope you’ll find this new system helpful and informative!
