Visitation for Patty Buczkowski

All Troop 850 Scouts and families are strongly encouraged to attend the visitation for Patty Buczkowski on Thursday evening.  Wear your full Class A uniform and meet at 6:30 in front of Hilvert Center.  LaRosa’s will be providing pizza and if you could bring a dozen cookies or a snack to share it would be appreciated.

Let us gather together to remember our dear friend Patty and support her loving family.

Joint Dutch Oven Campout February 5-6

As in 2015, Troop 850 will join Troop 654 of the Izaak Walton League for our annual Dutch Oven Campout on February 5-6 near Hamilton, Ohio.    Troop 654 will be hosting our Troop on their property north of Hamilton (450 Bessinger Road, about a 40 minute drive).

The Scouts will compete with the patrols of both Troops by preparing a 3-course meal in Dutch Ovens for themselves and the judges.  The winning patrol will have their names engraved on the plaque in our display case.  The Scouts will complete an orienteering course early Saturday and will return to St Ignatius Saturday evening because of Scout Sunday the following day.

Families of Troop 850 Scouts are invited to visit on Saturday and join us for dinner.  Please list family members on the permission slip and turn in by February 2nd.  The fee is $25 for each Scout and Adult for the weekend.  There is no charge for family members coming on Saturday.

Summer Camp at Camp McKee

For Summer Camp 2016, Troop 850 will attend Camp McKee located east of Lexington, KY.  The dates are June 19-25 and the cost including transportation is $290 per Scout and $50 per Adult, if the fees are paid in full by May 3rd.    Payments should be made to Troop 850 and the first payment of $130 ($50 for adults) is due on March 1st with the balance ($160) due by May 3rd.

All Scouts and Adults are required to complete a Medical form signed by a medical professional.  A link to this form is provided below.  All completed medical forms with required signatures and a copy of your health insurance card (front and back) should be turned in by May 10th.

Also provided is a link to the 2016 Leaders Guide for Camp McKee which contains many of the details about Summer Camp.   Information about merit badges offered and the schedule for classes can be found on pages 26-36.  Page 46 has a list of what to bring to camp.

The merit badge classes are scheduled between 8:30 – 11:45 and 1:45 – 4:30.  Scouts should have a schedule with no more than 1 free period during those times and include at least 1 Eagle required merit badge.  More information on Merit Badges can be found at www.meritbadge.org .  We will register for merit badge classes as a Troop, so when you hand in your deposit include your merit badge selections.

Adult participation is critical for us to have a successful summer camp experience for the Scouts.  By only charging $50 for adults, the Troop will pick up much of the costs in order to encourage adults to attend.

Klondike Derby January 22-24

With Christmas behind us and as the temperature begins to drop, we all share one thought in common ….. Let’s Go Camping!

Troop 850 will join the William Henry Harrison District at their biennial Klondike Derby the weekend of January 22-24 at Camp Friedlander.  Scouts and Adults must register at or before our Troop meeting on Tuesday January 19th in order to get the early registration fee of $25 ($10 District fee + $15 for Troop expenses) per person.

Remember, adults are needed to attend this campout and all our campouts throughout the year.  If we do not have enough adults participating, we cannot continue Troop 850’s long tradition of monthly campouts.

Please submit the Permission slip below along the fees.

Perryville Campout October 2-4

Troop 850 will be attending the Perryville Civil War Battle Reenactment over the weekend of October 2-4.  Perryville is located southwest of Lexington, KY about a 2½ hour drive from Cincinnati.  We will camp on the battlefield, tour the museum, meet with the soldiers in their authentic encampments, and attend the battle reenactment which includes a Calvary unit.  Scouts can even ‘Sign Up’ and practice their close-order drilling with the re-enactors.  For more information, go to Perryvillebattlefield.org.

Permission Slips, waivers, and Payments ($30) are due September 29th.  However the organizers require a preliminary list of attendees by Sept 20th, so if you are fairly certain you will be attending, fill out a waiver and send me an email or let Mr. Ogilvie know at a Troop meeting.

We will invite the second-year Webelos from Pack 850 to join us on this campout, so let’s have a good turnout of Scouts and Adults!
