Ben Johnson’s Eagle Scout Project

Here is another chance to help Ben Johnson with his Eagle Scout Project — this Saturday August 31st from 9 – 12:00 at Miami Whitewater Forest.  See the attached flyer for details and complete the waiver form if you haven’t done so already.

Let’s show great support for Ben and come prepared to make an impact on one of our great Hamilton County parks.

Canoeing Weekend Campout – Sept 13 – 15

Troop 850’s next campout is the weekend of September 13-15 and we will be canoeing on the Whitewater River near Brookville, Indiana.   All Scouts are required to have earned the Swimming merit badge to attend this campout.  This is a great opportunity for parents to join their sons for a fun weekend and adults are especially needed to pair up with younger Scouts.

Adults and Scouts must complete a Waiver below.  Please complete the permission slip, waiver and turn in by Sept 10th along with $32 fee per person.

No Meeting and Festival Service

There will be no Troop Meeting on Tuesday August 20th because no meetings are allowed at St I during Festival week.  Please note the following ….

Thursday August 22   6 – 8:00 pm   This is mandatory service for all Troop 850 Boy Scouts to help with the Festival set-up.  Wear your bright green Class B shirt and bring a filled water bottle with Scout’s name.  If you can not attend, you must contact Mr. Rottmueller.

Monday August 26   8 am – noon   This is mandatory service for all Scouts who are not in school to help with the Festival takedown.  Wear your red Class B shirt and bring a filled water bottle with Scout’s name.  Lunch will be provided around noon.  If you can not attend, you must contact Mr. Rottmueller.

Tuesday August 28   7:00 regular Troop Meeting

AND DO NOT MISS …….  Michael Branscum’s Eagle Court of Honor, Sunday August 18th at 1:00 pm  !!!!

Summer Camp Update – READ ALL PLEASE

Below is the permission slip for Summer Camp.  Please complete and return to me no later than the Troop meeting on July 9th.   That meeting is mandatory for all Summer Camp attendees and for all 1st year Scouts, a parent should also be present.  If you cannot attend, please notify me or Mr. Rottmueller.

Also below is the handout we will review on July 9th.  Please review before the meeting and bring a copy with you.

Tee shirts will be handed out next Tuesday.  Refer to the required colors in the handout below and have your Scout bring a list of tee shirts he needs with color and size.  His account will be deducted by $8 per shirt.

Medical forms are still needed from the following Scouts – Gehrum (2), Mays, Richardson, Tapke, Hahn, Specht, Stetter and Adults – Eichhold, Schuetz (2).

Summer Camp – Sign-up for Merit Badges

Sign-up for Merit Badges at Ransburg begins April 20th and is on a first-come-first-serve basis.  Refer to the 2 documents below to make your selections.  

Other Reminders

  • No one can attend Summer Camp without a current Medical form signed by a medical professional.  We will be mailing all Medical Forms for Scouts and Adults prior to camp, so I would like all forms by June 25th.  If this is a problem, please let me know.
  • Final payment is due by April 9th.  The total charge for Summer Camp is $270 and most people paid a deposit of $120 previously.

Spring Backpacking Trip April 12-14

The Spring Backpacking trip April 12-14 will be held at Twin Lakes in the Hoosier National Forest.  All Scouts (and adults) are welcome to attend including 1st time backpackers who will follow a separate trail appropriate for 1st timers.  If you are a new Scout who just crossed over and you would like to attend, see Mr. Rottmueller to discuss. 

All 1st time backpackers must bring their backpacks loaded with the appropriate gear to the Troop meeting on April 2nd.  Refer to the gear list for Spring Backpacking trip on the troop website (under Handy Information).

Please complete the permission slip below and submit with payment of $32 by April 9th.

Service Project Campout at Fort Ancient, March 8-10

Troop 850 will hold our annual Service Campout at Fort Ancient the weekend of March 8-10. We will perform a service project in the park to get the park ready for the season.  We will also tour the Fort Ancient Museum and all Scouts will receive a service patch from the park director.

Please return the Permission Slip and Waiver form by March 5th.  As in previous years, there is no charge for our Service Campout.

Summer Camp July 14-20

Troop 850 will be attending Summer Camp at the Ransburg Scout Reservation near Bloomington, Indiana the week of July 14-20.  The cost per Scout including transportation is $270.  The first payment of $120 is due February 19th with the balance of $150 due on April 9th.  For adults able to attend camp for the entire week, the cost is only $50 (pay by February 19th) with Troop 850 paying the remainder of the fee.   Council will charge an extra $10 for late payments, so be sure to make your payments on time. 

All Scouts and Adults are required to complete a Medical form signed by a medical professional to be turned in upon arrival at camp.  A link to this form is provided below.  Also, a copy of your medical insurance card (front and back) must be included.

A link is provided to a flyer put out by the Crossroads of America Council.  See page 3 for Ransburg information.   Information about signups for merit badges will be announced later.  See www.ransburgbsa.org  for more information.  

This will be a memorable week for our Scouts and we hope to have a large turnout of Scouts and adults.

Troop 850’s annual Dutch Oven Campout will be held the weekend of February 8-10 at Camp Oyo near Portsmouth, Ohio.  Under the guidance of Assistant Scoutmaster and Master Chef Andrew Ciolino, the Scouts will spend Saturday blending, stirring, spicing, pureeing, and decorating a 3 course meal.  Parents are encouraged to come and join in the fun and help create their own Dutch Oven feast.  We will stay in the cozy Lang Lodge — indoors!

Guest judges will determine the winning patrol who will have their names engraved on the plaque in our display case.   There will also be time set aside for card playing, an orienteering course, and a Saturday night movie with popcorn.  

Please return the permission slip (above) with fee ($35 per person) by Tuesday January 29th.    

Climb Time – Saturday, January 12th

Troop 850’s first outing of 2013 will be a day of indoor rock climbing at Climb Time in Blue Ash where they have a variety of climbing walls for all levels of expertise and the latest in safety equipment. 

Adults will be needed as drivers and also to serve as belayers – no experience required, training provided.  The more adults we have to belay, the more climbing the Scouts will be able to do.

We will meet Saturday January 12th at St Ignatius at 1:00 pm.  We will climb from around 1:45 to 4:00, followed by pizza at LaRosa’s in White Oak, returning to St Ignatius around 6:00.

Total cost will be $20, which should be turned in at our Troop meeting January 8th along with the permission slip below.  We will distribute Climb Time waivers at the meeting.  For more info and photos check out www.ctoba.com
